Background – During my last trip to Srilanka, I had the opportunity to visit Yala National Park which is known for having a large population of leopards as well as sloth bear, buffalo, elephants, jackals and a wide range of exotic birds.
Hotel – Thaulle Resort
Property Brief – It is a 4-star resort with 28 rooms parallel to the Yoda Lake with a magnificent view. I somehow felt that the property has German management in order to make sure its hospitality services are in accordance with other well-established hotel chains. Since the resort follows the green philosophy utmost care has been taken to follow the principals of sustainability which are economic, environmental and social. they also use solar energy, glass water bottles and grow herbs, vegetables and fruits in-house garden. The property follows a very traditional vastu inspired architecture with a lot of wooden design elements which were acquired locally in order to reduce the embodied energy, carbon footprint and also support the local economy.

Experience – The moment I stepped inside the hotel I was warmly welcomed by the staff, served fresh juice and warm towels to freshen up from a long journey as I had travelled from Nuwara Eliya which was like 8 hours drive.
Stay Duration – 3 days
Room – Classic Deluxe room

Amenities – The Classic Deluxe room had a larger spatial footprint in terms of the bedroom and bathroom. The bathroom had some Luxurious touches with a large bathtub, separate shower tub and all the sanitaryware were from leading brands.
It had a king size bed which was opposite to the seating area with a large wooden sofa. The integrated balcony also had a magnificent view of the Yoda Lake. Leaf-inspired wall mounted luminaires were allocated for lighting, Split air conditioning system and fan were integrated to maintain a suitable level of comfort for occupants. The rooms were decorated with a host of srilankan antiques and wooden furniture acquired from nearby craftsmen. The quality of hospitality was second to none as the rooms were pretty clean with daily room service.
There was a large swimming pool on the property which seem to be nice which goes pretty well with greenery in the surrounding.

Food – They serve a wide range of cuisine from continental, Indian, chinse, srilankan and as well as Ayurvedic for inner healing. Throughout my stay, I preferred to eat from the lake view restaurant because the food quality, taste and presentation was phenomenal. Most of the fruits and vegetables were grown in-house in the garden. Kindly check the images to make yourself happy.
Moreover, it was a very pleasant stay and i enjoyed each and every moment at this property because of their world-class facilities.
As an architect, I was also able to see how the building was designed for universal usage as they had elevators, ramps, staircases with handrails, well-illuminated corridors, slip-resistant flooring in toilets to accommodate everybody.
I would highly recommend this property to anybody who is going to Yala National Park.
